Biography

I completed an MSc in Software Engineering from Queen Mary, University of London. I Joined UCL in 2007 as a Research Assistant and then started my part-time Ph.D. in January 2008. My PhD investigated the creation of real-time geodemographic classifications. This involved the research on developing a tool for the creation of real-time geodemographic classification. Because geodemographic classifications are created by intensive clustering algorithms, hence the main theme of my PhD remained around the optimization of clustering algorithms.

My Ph.D. was funded through a KTP (Knowledge Transfer Partnership) between University College London and a company called LFG (Local Futures Group). The KTP aimed at introducing new GIS technologies in LFG and the development of their Local Knowledge web based system. Using the latest GeoWeb 2.0 technologies, I developed the web-based system which LFG currently uses for their research and analysis activities.

From September 2011, I am working on an EPSRC funded project as a Research Associate. The Project is called "Uncertainty of Identity: Linking Spatio-Temporal Information between the real and virtual worlds".

Research Summary

My research work involves the analysis and visualization of large social media datasets. I am quite interested in finding out the activity patterns and demographic characteristics of the social media users.  I have been involved in the analysis of two large datasets a) a database of more than 700 million tweets b) a database of 'surnames' accounting for a billion population around the world. My research work, as part of this project, has been picked-up and published by different national and international media outlets including Daily Mail, Guardian, and Evening Standard.
