Biography

After my Master degree studies in Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, I joined the Cardiorespiratory Unit of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children & UCL Institute of Child Health for a PhD programme sponsored by the British Heart Foundation. I obtained my PhD in 2008 when I was awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering/EPSRC Research Fellowship. I was appointed as a Lecturer to UCL Institute of Cardiovascular Science in March 2013 and promoted to Senior Lecturer in October of the same year. Since August 2011, I have been the Lead for Biomedical Engineering at the Centre for Cardiovascular Imaging, UCL Institute of Cardiovascular Science.

Research Summary

Application of engineering methodologies to the study of patho-physiological conditions in the human body; modelling of biomedical devices, in particular toward the development of patient specific models to study cardiovascular disease and treatments; development of computational methods to accelerate biomedical product development process and enhance safety in first-in-man procedures.

Teaching Summary

Since 2004, I have been supervising over 20 Master students, 8 PhD students (4 to completion), both clinicians and engineers, and 2 post-doc fellows.

In 2013-14, I lectured the Mechanics part of the 1st year undergraduate course of Materials and Mechanics of Deformable Bodies (MECH1006) organised by the Mechanical Engineering Department.
